Antica Fiera di San Matteo

The Antica Fiera di San Matteo (Ancient Fair of St Matthew) is back again this year, gathering quality producers from Feltrino and the Province of Belluno.

The event takes place between Via Roma and Via Campo Giorgio, where many small companies exhibit their traditional local agricultural products.

The Ancient Fair of St Matthew was born with the idea of promoting the nut of Feltre, but over the years it has expanded more and more adding even more products and attracting more and more people interested in buying.

The nut of Feltre has the characteristic of "premicity", that is it breaks very easily, almost only by pressing it between the fingers. Another feature that rewards the queen of the fair is the yield of the shelled, very high, which is accompanied by extreme ease of extraction of the kernel.

A genuine fruit that conquers the palate with its sweet and round taste but not only. The entire production follows natural methods, without the use of pesticides and bleaching treatments, respecting the environment and health. The drying is still done in the sun on a trellis as per tradition.

A little curiosity: in the past it was tradition to plant a nut for the birth of each female daughter as a symbol of good luck and prosperity.

It will be the Walnuts of Feltre, but also the Chestnuts and "moroni" of Feltre, the Cheeses of Alpine pasture, the Pumpkins, the Beans of Lamon and Beans Gialet, the Prussian Apple to illuminate this late autumn day.
