The lake was formed in the 1950s with the construction of the Sottocastello di Pieve di Cadore dam. The infrastructure was part of the complex of dams and hydroelectric plants built by Sade along the upper reaches of the Piave River.

Walks:
From Domegge and Calalzo you can start different walks along the shores of the lake.
Water sports activities:
There is a pedalo/canoe hire service at the premises overlooking the lake. The Circolo Nautico "Lago Centro Cadore" ASD is an Amateur Sports Association for the practice of water sports, sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, canoeing and sup, which organises numerous courses and activities right on the lake. Bathing:
The lake of Centro Cadore is suitable for swimming. The bathing areas are the Miralago beach in Pieve, the bay of the chalet in Calalzo and the two small beaches at the head and tail of the Vallesella bridge, on the campsite side and the Casetta bar side.
Fishing:
It is possible to fish in various parts of the lake; all information on the fishing basins of the Cadore, permits and regulations can be found on the website www.cadorepesca.com
Climbing Arena - Artificial climbing wall dam Centro Cadore ASD:
The wall of the same dam in the locality of Sottocastello (Pieve di Cadore) is a freely accessible rock climbing gym. The wall is divided into three sectors of varying commitment and difficulty.
The first sector offers extremely easy routes (from grade 3 to grade 4) that can be climbed by beginners and children. The routes vary in length, from 8 to 12 metres. In the medium difficulty sector, routes of varying lengths between 12 and 53 meters climb, with difficulties between grade 5 and 6.
The last sector is reserved for speed climbing. The gym has a via ferrata equipped for educational purposes, which can only be accessed accompanied by qualified personnel.
The area also has an 8-meters-high climbing tower with 7 routes of varying difficulty, with a specific cover that allows it to be used even in bad weather.
