Museo della Pietra e degli Scalpellini, Via Roma-Castellavazzo - 32013 Longarone (BL) IT (0039) 347-9647588 pietraescalpellini@gmail.com

The museum, recently moved to its new location in the former town hall of Castellavazzo, houses a collection of finds and equipment related to stone working and stonemason activity, typical of the town of Castellavazzo, with insights also related to the provincial area.

The museum is organized in 5 sections, each linked to a specific theme:

1. The geological history

The first section offers a detailed geological framework of the entire province, analyzing the evolution of the tectonic structure and the variety and dislocation of the various lithic types.

2. Presences of stone

The importance and role that stone has had over the centuries is celebrated in this room where, beautiful and precious testimonies, complete the didactic layout; the arguments covered range from more material uses and immediate perception, to more ethereal and spiritual contexts

3. The stone in everyday life

A vast exposition of finds and exhaustive testimonies highlights the close link between the daily anthropic activities and the stone.

4. Stone extraction and processing techniques

The presence of reconstructions and finds, supported by immediate and in-depth information content, lead the visitor to discover the techniques of extraction, processing and transformation of the stone.

5. Castellavazzo: a stone village, the stone of a village

An impressive setting pays tribute to the historical events of the town of Castellavazzo, which has always indissolubly linked its existence with its stone; a complete and rare collection of equipment, photographs, testimonies, celebrates the talented generations of autochthonous stonemasons who have been able to export their appreciated work in various locations not only in Europe.

On the ground floor of the building you can visit the adjacent archaeological expo with an exhibition of finds found in the area of Castellavazzo, dating back to Roman times.
