Museo della Resistenza "Agostino Piol", Loc. Pian de le Femene - 32020 Limana (BL) IT

Pian de le Femene is the plateau that extends to 1100 meters above the sea level, on the ridge between the muncipality of Limana (Belluno) and Revine Lago (Treviso). A curious name, that seems to derive from the habit of women that arrive there with the "mussa" (sledge) on their shoulders to bring food to men, and turn back home with charcoal for the home heart.

A place remembered for the Resistance period (1943-1945) on which stands the Partisan Museum dedicated to Agostino Piol, gold medal for the military valor, born in Limana in 1924 and fallen in Rivoli (TO) during a battle with nazifascism's force.

Outside the buolding there is the partisan monument, inaugurated in 1982, that carries the phrase "from the extreme sacrifice the freedom".

The museum is born from the desire of the partisans of the Tollot Brigade, it was created to remember the facts happened during the Resistance period. There in Pian de le Femene is a tombstone that say "Here 2.9.1944 the brigade Mazzini and Tollot united for the fight of the Resistance". In particular, between August 30 and September 2 1944, the prealpine dorsal Mount Cesen-Col Visentin was surrounded by the Nazi-Fascist forces, that forced the partisian bridages of Mazzini, Tollot and Piave to climb the peaks and divide.

It was on the Pian de le Femene that the Brigades Mazzini and Tollot united, continuing along the ridges towards Col Visentin and Cansiglio, while the Piave Brigade, after having protected the transit of Mazzini on San Boldo Pass, passed unscathed through the enemy roundup. The construction works of the Museum started in the 1990s thanks to the collaboration between the comunal administration of Limana, the Isbrec (Historical Insitute of Belluno of the Resistance and the Contemporary Age) and Anpi (Italian National Partisan Association) of Belluno and Treviso, in particular the section "la Spasema" of Belluno and "Nino Nannetti" of Vittorio Veneto. Thanks to the work of many volunteers, the main works ended on August 21 1944.

Inside there are documents, photographic material of events and people and objects that cross the history of Italy from 1935 to 1948, with a particular attention to the events occurred in Belluno. Among other things, stand out the flag of the Seventh Alpine Battalion, a piece of canvas from an Allied parachute, keys from the Belluno prison stolen during the rescue operation known as the "la Beffa di Baldenich" (Baldenich’s Hoax) and an original radio transmitter.

The Museum intends to be a place where preserve the memory of a crucial period for Italy, that marked the passage to democracy after twenty years of fascism regime that had suppressed every civil freedom, introduced the racial laws, and conducting the country to a bloody war. "Demonstrating what has been serves not only to remember it without any rhetoric, but also in opposition to rising extremism" explains Roberto Tacca, president of the Anpi section "la Spasema", "Sinistra Piave Bellunese". "Some values have no space-time limits, as freedom, equality and democracy are concepts that are right in every place and in every historical times. Rights that must be reaffirmed every day in order not to be lost and that memory allows us to value".

But the Resistance didn’t just touch Pian de le Femene. In the pastures near to Malga Montegal happened a pair of parachute jumps by the Anglo-American allies. They were unloaded precious bins containing clothing, footwear, food, cigarettes and grappa, very important disinfectant. The population also collaborated in the collection of materials, and in return recovered the canvas of parachutes to make linen.
