Piazza dei Martiri e i giardini
Piazza dei Martiri e i giardini, Piazza dei Martiri - 32100 Belluno (BL) IT

Piazza dei Martiri is considered the stage of Belluno, the area in the spotlight with its beautiful palaces, the promenade and the cafés. The poet Diego Valeri wrote: "Who wants to enjoy the spectacle of the world from one of the most beautiful windows in the world, go to Belluno, in Piazza Campitello, and look down the Piave".

Before World War II, the square was called Campitello, meaning the area were fairs, markets and parades were held. The present name is after the sacrifice of four patriots killed in the Resistance war in 1945.

The gardens go back to the Thirties. On one side there is a fountain decorated with the coat of arms of the 69 Municipalities of the Province of Belluno. On the other side there is the Resistance war Memorial, a bronze sculpture, by Augusto Murer.

Since 1965 they host four bronze panels that revisit crucial moments of the Resistance: the bread to the partisan, the Bishop of Belluno who goes to kiss the four hanged on street lamps in the square, the concentration camp, April 25 or better on May 2, Liberation day of the city.
