The Lake of Santa Croce is the second largest natural body of water in Veneto. Its surface reflects the image of the stunning mountains that surround it, offering incredible landscapes that enchant visitors from all over the world.
At an elevation of 386 m, it is very popular among sport fishing enthusiasts due to the abundance and quality of its fish population. The lake boasts as many as 15 different species including whitefish and true perch, which are its main inhabitants, along with lake trout and brown trout. Particularly appreciated by fishermen, especially in recent years, are also carp, pike, and eels, the latter being the subject of a specific reintroduction plan. For number lovers, the specimens caught in the lake are of decidedly interesting sizes.
At the mid-lake is the main office and boat rental of the Fishing Basin No. 7 of Alpago while on the southern shore, in the area of Santa Croce, the Fish Breeding Center overlooks the lake. This institution aims to rehabilitate the area and protect the most valuable species at risk of extinction. The Center features spectacular windows that overlook the lake.
