Immerse yourself in the history and spirituality of the Church of Madonna di Parè, a place of worship whose roots date back to the 6th century and which inspired one of the greatest Italian writers of the 20th century, Dino Buzzati.
Located in a panoramic position overlooking the Valbelluna valley, the church is dedicated to the Madonna di Parè. The name Parè seems to derive from the dialectal term "dei parens" meaning "mother of God". Despite its ancient origins, the church has undergone numerous renovations over the centuries, taking on its current neoclassical appearance in the 19th century.
Recent restorations have brought to light precious 16th-century frescoes and wall paintings, testifying to a rich artistic past. The church also houses an ancient Via Crucis, with fourteen chapels that tell the story of the passion of Christ and which constitute the first part of the "Buzzati Path", a hiking trail that retraces the steps dear to the writer from Belluno.
Dino Buzzati, the famous author of "The Miracles of Valmorel", found an inexhaustible source of inspiration in this place. The church and the surrounding paths have been the setting for many of his stories, and his spirit still hovers over these mountains today. The chapel of Santa Rita, with the votive painting painted by Buzzati in 1971, is one of the most suggestive stages of the journey.
