The Oratory of San Donato, along with its annexed hermitage, sits at an altitude of 380 meters above the village of Ronchena, in the municipality of Borgo Valbelluna.
Possibly dating back to the Lombard period, it is first documented in 1529.
San Donato is celebrated on August 7th, and popular devotion ties it to Saint Donatus, Bishop, and Martyr of Arezzo. One enters the actual hermitage either from the church or through an independent door, leading to two floors connected by an internal staircase. The ground floor likely housed a kitchen in the past, and after recent restoration, the upper floor has been made into a usable space.
From the late 17th century to the mid-18th century, hermits were documented here. For a long period, they were associated with the Order of Saint Augustine and later with the Franciscan Third Order. It is highly probable that they were connected to the Augustinian Order in Feltre at the Ognissanti monastery, which, in turn, had ties to the Conti di Cesana family and their related territory.
The church is accessible during celebrations and the event 'Fragments of Art in Valbelluna.'
The hermitage is available to pilgrims by contacting the parish of Lentiai.
