In the immediate post-war period along the lines of the Comelico front the mountain continued to return the bodies of the soldiers who died during the war and for this reason it was felt the need to collect them in one place to honor them with a worthy burial. On June 18, 1919, the mayor of Santo Stefano Luigi Ianesi assigned "a plot of land in the locality «Baiarde» [...] to be reduced to a sacred enclosure". Already in 1920, however, it was necessary to allocate to the cemetery a larger space, which was located in Colarè, where it is still located today. Here were buried "the Corpses of the Heroes exhumed at the Front or in the Military Cemeteries of the Zone" and it was possible to proceed to a first and partial census, from which emerged that the bodies of the fallen belonged to soldiers not only Italian, but also of other nationalities. A wooden cross was arranged for each of them. On November 4, 1921, the first solemn ceremony was held to commemorate the fallen
