Hiking at San Marco di San Vito Refuge
IN SUMMER
San Marco Refuge can be reached from San Vito di Cadore, leaving the car at Baita Sunbar and continuing on foot along the forest road that starts after the baita and goes up the right side of Ru Secco. Walking time: about 2 hours.
The San Marco Refuge can also be reached from the hamlet of Chiapuzza, following the path n. 225 in constant and steep climb.
From the Refuge, following the path n. 225, half an hour's drive from Podolada-Chiapuzza, you arrive at the historic furnace, built in 1895, where the stones were fired to make the lime necessary to build the Refuge.
It is still in an excellent state of preservation.
IN WINTER
San Marco Refuge can be reached with snowshoes or, snow permitting, on foot, following the forest road that starts after Baita Sunbar and the CAI path n. 228, paying attention to the avalanche danger and always consulting the snow weather report.
Rifugio San Marco is open from June to September.
