Owned by the Treviso CAI (Italian Alpine Club), the Antelao Refuge was built in 1948 by the writer and mountaineer Alma Bevilacqua to enhance a little-known area of the Dolomites, which she appreciated and loved during the partisan struggle.
How to reach the refuge
-From Pozzale, just above the village at the crossroads in Col you can choose:
◦To the left the Strada di Tranego, an old military road in dirt track, easy to walk along thanks to the gentle and constant slope, facing south you can enjoy the splendid panorama of the Centro Cadore, it climbs up to an altitude of 1,900 metres (Cima Tranego) to descend again towards Forcella Antracisa at an altitude of 1,693 metres.
◦ To the right the Sent. 250 called "delle Ville", dirt/asphalted road up to the former Rif. Prapiccolo then the path 'climbs' through the woods to Forc. Antracisa, you can enjoy the view of Calalzo, Rizzios and the Marmarole.
-At Pozzale, starting from Piazza Regina Margherita, Sent 253, known as "delle Grave", takes advantage of the former downhill slopes for the first stretch and then enters the woods; of the three Pozzale routes, it is the most tiring but the fastest. From Nebbiù, Sent. 254 starts above the built-up area at the ancient "Chiesa di San Bartolomeo nel Vecchio Cimitero" (Church of St. Bartholomew in the Old Cemetery) of 13th-century origin with its frescoed bell tower, climbs along the Rio Marilongo and crosses the 'Salto del Mus' over the Pisandro waterfalls.
-From Valle above the village the asphalt/steep road starts up to Rif. Costa Piana (Q 1,570), from which Sent. 251 starts up to the 'station' crossroads from where you can descend towards Forc. Antracisa or climb up to the Church of San Dionisio (Q 1,946).
-Above the villages of Borca, Vinigo and Venas runs along the coast between the woods at an altitude of about 1,400m the path 230 which joins Forc. Cadin with Sent. 235 which arrives directly from Borca (Sent. 232) passing by the ex Brunetta bivouac (Q 2132m destroyed by a landslide), then via Forc. Piria you arrive at the Refuge.
-From Calalzo go up the Molinà stream to Praciadelan where you will find path no. 258 which climbs up to the Piani dell'Antelao (Q1.650 m). Continue along this path and cross path no. 250 which arrives from the Galassi Refuge and via the Piria pass you will arrive at the Refuge.
-From San Dionisio there is a spectacular 360° panorama of the entire Centro Cadore, the Boite valley and Comelico with their respective massifs dominating them. From Col del la Cros, the hut is dominated by the refuge, and as you descend to reach it, you look constantly towards Antelao (Q 3,264), being able to distinguish: Punta Menini, Cima Fanton, the Tamburlon, the Crode de San Piero and Croda Mandrin
