The Refuge owes its name from the original owner, the Venetian painter Enrico Scarpa and to Eng. Ohannes Gurekian who met here, linked by a great passion for the mountains.
Enrico Scarpa (1891-1935), on 12th September 1912, made the chalet accessible by using it as a private studio and dedicating it to his daughter, born from the marriage with the noblewoman Itala Teresa Casari. When her father died, her daughter transformed the chalet into a first shelter, refreshment, for hikers.
Eng. Gurekian, on the other hand, escaped from the Armenian genocide, following a period of study in Asolo (TV), he found hospitality in Frassenè Agordino and soon fell in love with it. Here he founded the first Pro Loco in Italy and later became president of Agordo’s CAI section, designing the alpine works at the Carestiato and Duran refuges as well as the renovation and expansion of the Scarpa Refuge.
In the sixties it became property of Agordo’s CAI section which adapted it as a refuge following suitable and subsequent adaptation and expansion interventions.
The refuge's kitchen offers a menu linked to the Belluno culinary tradition: simple and tasty dishes made with raw materials from the local area.
