The shelter is at the center of a network of roads and trails that connect Val Boite and Val di Zoldo, the shelters at the foot of Mount Pelmo and those of Mount Rite and Passo Cibiana.
Point of support of the Alta Via n. 3 and mountain bike trails, in the winter season is a destination for excursions with snowshoes or skis. A short distance away you can visit some of the Great War posts and two biotopes of environmental interest.
It can be a starting point for the Monte Rite and the museum. Originally a hunter's shelter built in 1947, it has undergone several interventions over the years.
Recently radically restructured by the Municipality of Vodo di Cadore, with a fundamental contribution from the Veneto Region, it was inaugurated in
September 2008 and reopened in the summer of 2011.
How to get there:
IN SUMMER
You can reach shelter Talamini by car from Vodo, along the steep and partially asphalted road that starts after the lake, or on foot. In the latter case, it takes about 2 hours from the lake.
Talamini can also be reached from Zoppè di Cadore, with a 4x4 or in any case a car with a good height from the ground, and from Mount Rite, following CAI paths n. 478-494.
IN WINTER
You can travel the road that climbs from Vodo with snowshoes or alpine skis and, snow permitting, also on foot. The same road, if it is well beaten and covered with snow, turns into a fast and exciting toboggan run.
Attention: this is a non-sanctioned slope, without protection and crossed by skiers and pedestrians, so you must descend with caution.
