Villa Tauro "delle Centenere", loc. Centenere 10 - 32030 Cesiomaggiore (BL) IT +39 0439 391119

The complex of Villa Tauro stands out clearly on the flat countryside of the Centenere, in an environmental context that has totally maintained its agricultural aspect.

It is one of the first examples of a 17th century manor house in Belluno. It was built by the Tauro family between the first and the second half of the seventeenth century. In 1811 it was owned by Francesco Tauro, and in the summer of that year is described the pond fed by the stream Buda. Around there were gardens, meadows, orchards, fields, woods. Among what has remained, of the art collections of Count Tauro, housed in a vaulted room of the rustic wing and its porch, stands the Milestone of the Via Claudia Augusta Altinate, discovered in the parish of Cesio in 1786.

The complex is now characterized by an "L" development. A detached building, which defined a closed court, was on the other side, but demolished in the first half of the twentieth century to allow the opening to the countryside. To the north, in addition to the oratory, there is the addition, after the First World War, of the "ritonda", connected to the kitchen. isolated to the east is the newest barn-barn, now disused.

The park declining towards the valley of Caorame, arranged in the second decade of the nineteenth century, presented typical elements of the picturesque nineteenth century: paths, groves, a fish pond or heart-shaped lake and an English wood with oaks of which today only young specimens remain. The oratory, commissioned by Francesco Tauro and dedicated to San Francesco, was probably finished in 1694, date reported in the bell.

The facade is in Baroque style and the interior, in a rectangular room, has a wooden altar and a canvas by Luigi Cima. Thanks especially to the passion of the current owners for the villa and the countryside in which it is inserted, it relives the splendor of the past, with its interior furnishings, lawns regularly cut and pruned hedges.
