Located in Fortogna, 5 km south of Longarone, it was built after the tragedy to accommodate the remains of the victims. A site of considerable importance for the memory of the Vajont, it was visited by numerous authorities such as Presidents of the Republic and also by Pope Giovanni Paolo II in 1987. In 2003 it was declared a national monument. Between 2003 and 2004 the cemetery was completely renovated with the replacement of tombstones and flooring and the construction of the new access portal that houses a museum with photographs and recovered objects. The site is always accessible from the side entrances; the museum of the portal, is open to the public by volunteers, following a calendar, available on site, or on the site of the Pro loco of Longarone: www.prolocolongarone.it.
