A medium-length itinerary with a reduced difference in altitude, which winds along the slopes of Col Melon, between Pedavena and the hamlets of Teven, Travagola, Facen, Festisei and Altor; the route is not particularly difficult, except for some steep sections, and is entirely accessible by bike.
Starting from the square of Pedavena, leads to the discovery of unexpected landscapes and the most western hamlets of the town. After passing by the small church of S. Osvaldo, you will meet the first houses of Teven, whose facades are decorated with murals, some of which portray moments of rural life. Immediately after a bend, leave the main road to follow a side road on the left, which goes up to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Caravaggio. This building of worship, located in an elevated position, houses inside a canvas by Giovanni d’Antona and an altarpiece attributed to Francesco Frigimelica. Cross the churchyard and the driveway leading to the church, turn right, reaching the beautiful square of Travagola, which are crowned by several murals with joyful depictions of children engaged in the games of the village tradition.
Then you reach the village of Arten and the village of Col and then go down again and admire the complex of Villa Marsiai, home of the Community of San Francesco. You will then reach the parish church of Facen, dedicated to St. Peter Apostle, from which you can clearly see the Feltre basin.
Continuing, then, towards Festisei you can head to the beautiful church of San Valentino and Santa Giuliana, which welcome us in the charming nucleus of Altor, which also houses a seventeenth-century villa.
Descending, finally, you can admire the octagonal church of Sant’Anna and a suggestive view of Villa Pasole-Berton.
FURTHER INFORMATION ON... Villas and dominical houses in the municipality of Pedavena
The villa in the Belluno area has always been conceived as a permanent home for the landowner who, having a certain amount of land, wanted to closely monitor its processing. The most striking example is the 16th century Villa Pasòle-Berton, built by the nobles Pasòle. Enlarged in the 1700s with the spectacular pincer staircase and the facade tympanum, it was purchased by the Berton family at the beginning of the 19th century. Remarkable is the fishpond-canal which surrounds the garden enlivened by fountains and statues. Other monitor architectures can be found in the hamlets: in Facen, there is Villa Marsiai, from the end of the 18th century, currently the seat of the community of St. Francesco. The Chapel, dedicated to St. Francesco Saverio, was built in 1790 by the architect of Feltre Antonio De Boni (1739-1811). In Murle is located Villa Lusa. from the early 18th century and recently restored, with only one surviving colonnade (wing of the rustics). Norcen, in addition to the residence restored at the end of the 19th century by Monsignor Antonio Vecellio in Valduna, preserves the 16th century Villa Norcen in a central position. Finally, in the location of Sega, we remind you of Villa Crico, built in the early years of the 19th century on the probable refurbishment of an 18th century building.
