An insightful loop hike, not just for mountain enthusiasts but especially for history buffs. Trail marker 2321 leads us to discover sites of significant importance during World War II, connected to the Partisan Resistance and the Liberation Struggle. From the combat events at Pranolz-Pian della Crosetta in 1944 during the major Nazi-Fascist roundup to the remains of 'casere'—first used as shelters and later as bases and command posts for the Partisan Brigades operating in the Belluno Valley and Treviso.
This area was where British Major Tillman and American Majors Chappel and Benucci established bases for Allied missions. Arriving at 'Pian dele Femene,' another famous Resistance site, we can reflect at the monument to the Partisan Woman and visit the Resistance Museum 'Agostino Piol,' displaying weaponry and documents from that era.
Returning towards the car left in Melere, we traverse the plateau of Canal di Limana and Montegal, used during that period as a landing point for weapons, provisions, and clothing dropped by Allied aircraft.
