For the first time the stage finish in 1962 with Guido Carlesi who beat the Frenchman Desmet. Arrival replicated the following year, 1963, where winner is Armando Pambianco "il Gabanein".
But it is in 2011 that one of the most memorable performances in the history of the Giro takes place, when "the Pistolero" Alberto Contador makes this climb unforgettable, snatching the victory to the favorite Vincenzo Nibali and closing the time-trial in 28'55', winning with a good 34'' advantage on the Sicilian.
A jubilant crowd welcomes the feat and is again inflamed to the passage of a young Davide Malacarne at the beginning of his career: pride of a territory that welcomed the Giro after almost 50 years absence.
Climb with an average slope of 8%, it is worth conquering this summit to understand why it is called by the people of Belluno "The terrace on the Dolomites".
It was a nod to the 1963 Gorizia-Nevegal stage, which led the Giro to pass through Longarone, just 125 days before it was swept away by the infamous wave of Vajont.
