Duomo - Concattedrale di San Pietro Apostolo

The Church of Saint Peter, is a Cathedral found outside the city walls, the large church, Duomo e Concattredale di San Pietro, is the city’s main place of Catholic worship. The body of the church was rebuilt after 1510, following the damage inflicted by the invasion of the imperial troops of the League of Cambrai. Inside are found a series of interesting artworks. Of note: the second altar to the right with the Pala della Misericordia (altarpiece of Our Lady of Mercy) di Pietro de’ Marascalchi, three wooden sculptures by Francesco Terilli, and the 3rd Century bishop’s chair in pink stone, with crest carved by Adalgerio Villalta. Under the main altar panel one can see the funerary monument by Tullio Lombardo. In another apse, a representation of San Girolamo Penitente (Saint Jerome), attrubuted to Domenico Robusti. The pipe organ, installed in 1767, is the work of Gaetano Callido. Last but not least, the crypt with three aisles, from the second half of the XIth Century, contains a fresco by Giovanni di Mel.
