The Monte Ricco Fort was the heart of the Pieve di Cadore entrenched camp and was built at an altitude of 953 meters in the last twenty years of the 19th century, almost on the site of the ancient castle that for centuries represented the defense and symbol of this land.
It was conceived and built to prevent the enemy from coming from the “Tre Ponti” narrows towards Pieve and Tai along the Piave valley and to act with the nearby Castle Battery, about 200 meters away, on Mount Tranego, Monte Zucco and Col Vidà.
In recent years, the fort has been subjected to extensive restoration and consolidation work.
The Fort can be reached on foot, with a short panoramic walk of about ten minutes, from the car park in Piazza dei Martiri della Libertà, in front of the “Museo dell'Occhiale”.
