It is an installation that allows the main elements of the celestial sphere, the motion of the stars, the appearance of the starry sky in different periods and some astronomical phenomena to be represented on a hemispherical vault by means of light projections.
The St. Thomas dome has a 4-metre dome on which it is possible to project a simulation of the vault of heaven, photos, videos and simulations of astronomical phenomena.
The dome seats 25 people. The planetarium of S. Tomaso is an integral part of the Provincial Astronomical Centre "Emigrants". Inaugurated in February 2004. The centre also houses a sliding roof observatory equipped with a Ritchey Chretien type telescope with a diameter of 450 mm.
Owned by the municipality, which conceived and strongly supported the project, it is managed by the Agordino Astrophiliac Association 'Cieli Dolomitici'.
