The Nevegal Alpine Plateau is a high plain located on the northern side of the Col Visentin Group, the ridge that separates the Padano-Veneto plain from the Val Belluna, whose highest peaks are Col Visentin (1763 m a.s.l.), Col Toront (1673 m a.s.l.), and Col Faverghera (1610 m a.s.l.). On each of these peaks, there is a refuge (respectively, the V Artiglieria Alpina Refuge, the Angelo Bristot Refuge, and the Brigata Cadore Refuge).
Recommended periods
In the summer months, Nevegal appears immersed in a thick green mantle, covered with woods and rich in life paths suitable for all; there are almost 100 km of trails for trekking and mountain biking that lead up to the peaks that make it up. From the highest point, Col Visentin, looking down towards the Piave and Belluno, you can see the Schiara range, Pelmo, Croda Rossa, Sorapiss, and Croda Marcora. Following are the peaks of Bosconero, Antelao, and Marmarole. Beyond the Piave Valley rise Duranno, the Col Nudo chain, and Monte Cavallo.
The best time to enjoy a nice walk on these paths is in the spring, particularly in May and June; in this season, it is indeed possible to observe various species of plants and flowers, such as daffodils, lily of the valley, gentians, stick flowers, orchids, anemones, astrantia, marsh marigolds, aquilegias, lilies, broom, and at higher altitudes, rhododendrons and alpine stars (the latter especially at altitude). But every season has its charm: in the summer, it is pleasant to traverse the trails on a mountain bike or walk along the easy paths, suitable for everyone: families with children, hikers, and Nordic walking enthusiasts. In autumn, the woods are painted with enchanting colors, and the clearest days offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Dolomites and the Venetian plain. In winter, the ski area's slopes provide guaranteed fun for winter sports lovers, and the untracked areas become a paradise for ski mountaineers and lend themselves to exciting hikes with snowshoes.
The presence of various and numerous paths has allowed for the creation of a list of trails that, intersecting with each other, offer the possibility to traverse (on foot or by mountain bike) particularly scenic itineraries suitable for the whole family.
