Alta Via Number 1 in the Dolomites is called “The Classic”: 125 km, 12 stages and 7,300 metres of elevation gain from Braies to Belluno, in a succession of incredible landscapes.

On this renowned trek, you will cross the heart of the Dolomites, passing through some of the most famous and suggestive places. 

On this renowned hiking trail, you will cross the heart of the Dolomites, passing through some of the most famous and captivating places. From Lake Braies to the Tofane, with the Croda Rossa d’Ampezzo, Fànis and the Tofane groups. From Tofane to Civetta with the Nuvolàu, Croda da Lago, Pelmo and Civetta groups.

From Civetta to Belluno with the Moiazza, Tàmer-San Sebastiano, Prampèr-Mezzodì and Schiara groups. The Alta Via 1 will introduce you to the many facets of the Dolomite landscape, from the almost lunar and desert-like scenery of the Biella and Fanes shelters, to the vertical rocks and walls of the Tofane, Pelmo, and Civetta, to the wild Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park.

The basic route is accessible and not particularly challenging for a good hiker, with variations for both the less experienced and those who want to tackle more complex sections. Along the way, you will find several mountain huts and shelters where you can stay overnight and regain your energy with traditional dishes.
