A route that will introduce you to the ancient Iron Route that connected the Fursil mines near Colle Santa Lucia with the smelting furnaces at Andraz Castle and Valparola Pass. At one time these places were known, and disputed between the inhabitants of Tyrol and Venice for mining.
Along the way, you will have the opportunity to see picturesque views while learning about the history of this important occupation and business. A guided tour of the Fursil mines is recommended.
The road, much of it winding through larch and fir forests, starts from the square of Villagrande in Colle Santa Lucia and continues on the state motorway toward Selva di Cadore. After crossing the bridge over Ru de la Pavia, you will arrive at the entrance to the Fursil mine tunnels. From there a convenient mule track will take you up to Pianaz, and from there you have to cross the striking semicircular valley overlooked by Monte Pore.
After passing the villages of Luiz and Zopei, you will arrive at Forzela where the path turns into a convenient cart track and, through the woods, leads into the area of Livinallongo. On the last stretch, you will pass through the hamlet of Col de Larzonei and arrive at the famous Andraz Castle through the forest on the Andraz-Nuvolau trail.
